The Perfect Partnership of Underfloor Heating and Heat Pumps
Heat pumps lend themselves perfectly to underfloor heating. They heat water to lower temperatures than traditional gas fired boilers which pump much hotter water through one or two wall mounted radiators in each room.
Instead, with a network of pipes installed into the whole floor of a room, underfloor heating gives you one large radiator beneath your feet. And because warm air rises, heating the lowest part of the room ensures that a cosy ambient temperature is much easier to maintain than with wall mounted radiators in different parts of a room.
Why Underfloor Heating Makes So Much Sense
-
Maximum Efficiency
Heat pumps work at their best when they circulate warm water that’s typically 35°C–45°C. This is quite different from gas fired boilers that usually heat water to 60°C or more.
-
Radiant Comfort
Unlike radiators that create hot spots and cold spots through convection, underfloor heating is even warmth from the ground up. This creates a more natural indoor climate and eliminates draughts.
-
Design Freedom
Have you ever wanted to put furniture on a wall but there’s already a radiator in the way? With all the rooms with underfloor heating free of wall-mounted bulky radiators, you have complete freedom to arrange furniture and design your rooms exactly as you want.
-
Lower Running Costs
A heat pump doesn't need to heat water to high temperatures and it doesn’t burn gas to do it. With a heat pump and underfloor heating installed professionally, you can see a significant reduction in your energy bills.
Underfloor heating brings warmth to every corner of a room from the ground up. It maintains a lovely ambient temperature rather than the raging hot spots you can get with radiators. This can increase the efficiency of your home heating by up to 40% compared to traditional radiators.
Solutions for Every Home
We are experts at heat pump assessment, specification and installation and have the right solution for new builds and established properties. We recommend underfloor heating to go with heat pumps as the two work so well together. Installation of underfloor heating can be different depending on what type of property it is installed in:
New Builds - Screeded Systems
Pipes are laid within the floor and covered with a thick layer of screed, which acts as a thermal mass to store and slowly release heat from the network of pipes running through it.
Updating and Renovating - Low-Profile Overlay Systems
In existing houses where digging up the floor or laying screeds is not an option, we can install slimline interconnecting pipework panels directly onto existing floors.
Summer Cooling
In the summer, many heat pumps cycles can be reversed to circulate cool water through your system of underfloor pipes. This can be used to cool rooms by 3–5°C.
